Strollers are on the rise in popularity, especially if you want to live an active lifestyle. Most parents buy a baby stroller for their dual-purpose and easy approach to exercise with longer walks. It’s no fun carrying a growing baby and a growing diaper bag around town on a daily basis.
If you’re looking to buy a stroller and have come across Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 reviews, it’s a great option to consider. Below is our honest review with the strengths and drawbacks of this sleek baby stroller.
Top features of the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Stroller include:
- Forever-Air rubber tires
- All-wheel suspension
- One hand, one fold
- Five-point harness system
- Long-lasting
Things to Consider When Buying a Stroller
There are lots of things to consider before buying a stroller, not just whether it can be used for your daily needs. Here are a few things to look out for before purchasing your stroller.
Ease of Use
Some are designed for you to be able to walk, jog, and run to wherever your destination may be. They may come equipped with rubber tires or plastic tires depending on the make and model. When shopping for one, check that it can be used for what you need.
Strollers can also be heavy or lightweight due to the design of the frame. This is something to consider if you suffer from back pain and can’t lift more substantial objects. If they are heavier than what you’re used to, check what type of folding mechanism it has. Sometimes they may have a one-handed fold for your ease of use.
Safety
The most important features to consider are ones to do with making sure your baby is safe. You want to be able to go for a long walk, knowing that they are secured in the stroller. Check that the jogger meets the standard requirements needed.
When looking for a stroller, have a look at what harness types they offer. You can get a three-point harness system or a five-point harness system. Personally, I always go for one with more straps as I’ve got a very wiggly baby.
Brakes will become your new best friend, especially if you have lots of hills in your area. They are built to make sure that the stroller will stop when you need it to, not a few seconds later. This is an important feature to consider if you plan to walk on the road or through busy cities.
Front Wheel Lock
On most strollers, they will have a front swivel wheel, which locks in place to stabilize the stroller when wanting to go for longer walks. You can unlock it for better maneuverability when out at the mall. This feature is something to look for as the lock can be placed either on the wheel itself or have a hand switch to change it for you.
This option is something to consider if your family leads an active lifestyle. You can take the stroller out with you for the day in the woods, and it will be great fun.
Newborn Approved?
Nowadays, most strollers are made to support your child right from the get-go. This is useful for you as you don’t have to go out and continuously buy new strollers every year. When looking for a stroller, check whether you are able to use it with your newborn.
Please be aware that some may say that they are newborn-approved but don’t have the extra added comfort needed to support them. Others that can attach a specific car seat or bassinet designed for newborns may be a better option.
Weight Limits
When buying a stroller, you don’t just use it for a couple of months and then throw it away; you want to get your money out of it. Have a look at the weight limit on the stroller to see how long you may use it for. Some you can only use up to 40 pounds, but others can be used to 65 pounds.
If your child is growing quickly, this is something to consider, as it will save you a few bucks in the long run.
Accessories
One of my favorite things about having a stroller is all of the gadgets that may come with it. You can get some with extra-large storage space to put all of the things you need. Others come with organizers or cup holders for you and your child. Think about what you specifically need when out and about and which accessories will benefit your lifestyle.
Other things to consider:
- Adjustable handlebars
- Shaded canopy with UV protection
- Suspension type
- Reclining positions
- Travel uses
- Comfort
Presenting the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Stroller
The brand Baby Jogger has been around since 1984 and designs their strollers with parents in mind. They are perfect if you have an active lifestyle and want to include your baby in it.
The Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 stroller is an urban stroller. You can use it for everyday shopping but also for longer hikes if you desire.
Despite the name, the Baby Jogger Mini GT2 is not a jogging stroller. It can be used for longer walks and faster paces, but not running or serious exercise. If you are someone looking to jog with your baby, this is not the stroller for you.
Its sturdy framework and all-terrain wheels make it so that wherever you decide to go, your stroller can come with you. It also means you don’t have to buy a separate stroller for different things; you have it all built into one system.
The stroller comes equipped with a one-hand fold system for your ease of use. This is an option to consider if you don’t want to hurt your back when trying to lift your stroller. Having a self-standing system also means it’s easy to store away, whether that be in your car or in the house.
The previous version of the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 has rubber tires designed for smoother surfaces. This version includes Forever-Air rubber tires, which can be used on any terrain, as well as all-wheel suspension which makes it a comfortable ride no matter the surface.
The newer version also features calf support for your growing child. This is an option to consider if you want a stroller that will last a long time.
If you’re looking for a stroller that can be taken anywhere with you and work wherever you go, this is certainly an option to consider.
Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Stroller Review
Overall, this is an excellent all-around stroller. It’s perfect for everyday use to the mall as well as treks through the woods. It has some drawbacks but the strengths certainly outweigh them.
Walk, Jog, or Run?
Despite the name, this is not a jogging stroller. It may have some of the same features as one but it is not recommended to run with this stroller. If you’re looking for one to specifically help with exercise, I suggest searching for a different stroller.
Saying that, it’s an excellent stroller for long walks due to its all-terrain tires and sturdy suspension. You can use it wherever you go and not have to worry about whether it will push or not. It’s also a great stroller for everyday use.
Puncture-Free Wheels
Don’t let the name of these wheels confuse you! These tires are not filled with air but designed to be as light and durable as ones that have been. They are filled with lightweight foam instead of air. This means that the tires will not go flat with frequent use on rough terrain.
All of the wheels on the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 are Forever-Air filled, making it incredibly durable, even with daily use. This is something to consider if you’re going to walk on gravel or uneven roads a lot.
They can be popped off with a push of a button, which is convenient when trying to store the stroller. The stroller features a front swivel lock making it easier to use on tougher terrains. This is a good option to consider if your family is into long hikes.
The wheels all have a brilliant suspension system as well, which helps with the agility and maneuverability when on the go. Having the all-wheel suspension makes for an easier ride as well as added comfort for your child.
The only downside to these wheels is that if they get damaged, instead of fixing the wheel yourself, you will have to buy a new wheel. On the other hand, they can never get a puncture, which is a huge bonus.
Sturdy and Built to Last
Although this stroller is not the lightest, weighing 22 pounds, it’s worth it. The framework has been made to be sturdy yet durable. This means that it’s easy to push and move around, yet won’t break with the simplest of movements. In terms of strollers, the City Mini GT2 is an average weight.
If you suffer from back problems or are still recovering from childbirth, be aware that it can be a struggle to lift this sometimes. It gets easier with use and has some features to help you should you need them.
Folding and Unfolding
This feature gives you a helping hand when trying to store this stroller away. It has been designed for compact storage to give you more space to play with your little one. Folding and unfolding the GT2 is one of the easiest things to do. Its one-hand, one-fold process saves you a lot of hassle.
Simply lift the strap with one hand and it will fold itself in a nice, easy compact way. Not only does this save you time, but it also means that you don’t have to spend half an hour trying to unfold it.
This is a good feature for you if, like me, your child loves to throw tantrums right when you need to go anywhere. You can pick them up and calm them down in one arm and get the stroller ready with the other. Brilliant for multitasking!
With the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 version, it also has a self-standing feature so that your baby’s seat does not get dirty. The downside to this is that the handle is what it rests on, so try storing somewhere with softer ground.
Take A Seat
The seat is designed with lots of extra padding for your child’s comfort. It’s also slightly deeper and taller than most strollers, meaning you’re able to get a good few years of use out of it.
It also has a one-hand reclining system built into it. It can lie in any position you may require with a simple pull of a clip. This is a great option, and it goes down to a nearly flat position. If you’re out for longer walks and your child gets sleepy, you’ll be able to recline the seat fully and continue on with your day.
When reclined, the seat has a large mesh window affixed to it, which allows for air circulation. This is good on a hot day when out walking. If you fear your child is getting cold, you can cover it over with the material attached above.
The included seat is not recommended for newborns and should be used from the age of six months upwards.
Harness System
In my opinion, this has the best harness system due to its five-point locking. You know your baby is safely secured as they are not able to slip out of it.
The harness can be easily adjusted to suit your child no matter how tall they may be. It attaches to the seat with clips making it simple to use. This is a good feature as you don’t have to rethread the harness every time your child grows.
The buckle is easy for you but tricky for a child. Saying that, a clever three-year-old may be able to unlock the system so keep an eye on them as they get older.
Hit the Brakes
This stroller comes with hand-operated parking brakes. I love this option as it’s flip flop friendly and doesn’t mean I scuff my shoes. My husband also likes this option as instead of trying to fumble to find the foot brake; it’s within reach of his hand.
You simply switch the clip to the correct position and your stroller is parked. A downside of the hand switch is that it can be a bit difficult to use sometimes if you’re not used to the mechanism.
Weight Limit
You don’t need to worry about how long you can use the City Mini GT2. This is because the stroller can hold up to 65 pounds. You are definitely going to get your money’s worth when using it—lasting well into the toddler years.
Having the maximum weight on a stroller be 65 pounds rather than 40 pounds is an absolute blessing. There’s nothing worse than getting used to a stroller and then your child getting too big for it.
Canopy Coverage
The canopy for the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 is absolutely massive! If you’re buying a stroller for the canopy alone, I would recommend this one.
There are three panels as well as two peek-a-boo windows for you to check up on your child. The peek-a-boo windows have magnetic attachments to close them over when needed.
Like with all Baby Jogger strollers, the full-coverage canopy is UV protected to make sure your little one is safe from the sun’s rays. Having UV protection on the canopy is a great feature as you do not need to buy an extra umbrella to clip onto your stroller.
Travel System
Although the initial stroller can not be used for newborns, there’s the possibility to create a travel system that can easily support your baby.
The stroller comes with the adapters needed to attach your car seat and use it as a safe newborn stroller. The adapters are primarily designed for the use of the City Go infant car seat but can be used with many other car seats as well. Please be aware that if you are using them with a different car seat, the attachments may not glide in as securely.
Having your stroller turn into a travel system means you can use it from day one. Whether you’re going into town or going on a long journey, you can take it with you and use it anywhere. There’s no need to think about buying another one later on.
The car seat is not included when buying the stroller and costs extra. If you are a new parent, I suggest buying the car seat as it will save you money in the long run. If you already have a car seat, check that it’s able to fit in the stroller, if not you may need to buy a new one or wait a few months before your child can use the stroller.
Accessories
Unfortunately, this stroller doesn’t come with any added extras that we love. Saying that, you’re able to buy them all separately if you need them.
One thing I would recommend to invest in when your little one gets older is a child’s tray. Then you can store what they need in front of them rather than bending down and going into the storage basket every time you need something.
If you have another child, you can attach a glider board to this model so that they may stand there and ride with you. This beats letting them hold onto the stroller and makes it a fun and interesting trip for them, especially when their little legs get tired.
Another useful thing would be a cup holder. If you’re like me you need your water on a walk to keep you hydrated and energized. As well as that, a parent’s console stores all your smaller items and other things you may need quick reach of.
It’s a shame that this stroller doesn’t include any of these and you have to pay extra for them. Nowadays, most people expect things like this to already be included.
Disney Approved
I’m secretly a child at heart and this is something that I love! With the City Mini GT2, you are able to take your stroller with you to one of the best places in the world. No more trying to use the clanky ones that they provide, simply take your own.
This is also good as if your child gets tired, you can let them recline and sleep in their own stroller while you and your partner grab a coffee and some food.
The downside of this is that you now have no excuse not to go there!
Adjustable Handlebar
No longer can your partner complain that they can’t push the stroller as the handlebars are too low. This stroller comes with an adjustable handlebar so anybody can use it. This makes it incredibly comfortable and easy for you when pushing the stroller.
It’s also a good thing as this way, you will be pushing the stroller at the correct height for you. Your posture will become better, and you won’t be slouching or straining.
Standard Storage
This stroller may not have the best storage in the world, but it does have some that you can use.
On the back of the child’s seat there is a large mesh pocket where you can store things like your keys and cell phone. I wouldn’t store anything bigger in there as it’s the backrest for your little one and it may make it uncomfortable for them.
The storage basket underneath the seat is the latest model. With its curved bar and access from the front and rear, it makes it more accessible than the previous versions. Saying that, it may take a lot of effort to get things out, and may be easier to access things from the side.
If you’re looking for a stroller with enough storage so you can take everything, including the kitchen sink, then this one isn’t for you. On the other hand, it’s great if you want to take a few things with you out for the day. If you want to save space for shopping, you may have to hang your bag on the handlebar.
Extra Comforts
With extra padding on the inside of the seats as well as an adjustable leg rest for when your child gets older, it’s no wonder kids love it. They can sit back and recline easily when wanted and not feel the bumps in the sidewalk.
This stroller is comfortable not just for your baby, but for you as well. The padding on the handlebars means that maneuvering it comes with ease. It also means if you’re trying to push your child as well as shop, your hands will be nice and supported and not ache.
Warranty
Not everyone thinks about the warranty when considering a stroller, but you should. If something breaks after only six months, you want to make sure it can get fixed under warranty. Especially if you paid a hefty price for the stroller.
With Baby Jogger, you have a lifetime warranty on the frame so if you ever manage to break it, they will happily fix it for you. For the smaller parts and fabric, you get a one-year warranty.
This is particularly good, as there have been a few cases of the fabric ripping within the first few months. If this does occur, you can phone them, and they will replace it.
This is something to consider if you are a first-time parent and want to make sure that if anything breaks, you know it’s covered. This is providing you meet the standards within their policy.
Value for Money
Although it’s on the higher end of the market, the designs and features that it comes with means every parent will love it. It’s sturdy, stylish, and a pleasure to push.
Not only that, since it can hold 65 pounds, you can use it for many years to come. It may feel like you’re spending a lot of money to begin with, but over the course of the years, it’s worth it.
Pros
- Forever-Air filled tires
- One-hand folding
- Five-point harness system
- All-wheel suspension for easy maneuvering
- Long-lasting
Cons
- Weighs 22 pounds
- No extra accessories
- Pricey
- Storage basket quite small
Alternatives to the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2
The Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 offers a lot of good features that go into a stroller. If you are interested in looking at something similar to compare your options, here are some to check out:
Baby Jogger City Mini GT
The Baby Jogger City Mini GT is the previous version of the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2. Not only is it cheaper than the newer version, it still has most of the same features.
The stroller can hold up to 65 pounds and includes the Forever-Air filled tires that I have come to love. It also weighs 22 pounds, much the same as the newer version of the stroller.
The only downside to this one compared to the newer version is the storage basket is smaller than the newer version and even more difficult to use. This one also doesn’t have the adjustable leg rests for your little one to use as they grow.
This stroller is one to pick if you don’t want the added features that are in the newer model and want to save a few bucks.
Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight Jogging Stroller
The Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight Jogging Stroller is the one for you if you want to go jogging with your child. It’s easy to maneuver and great for open paths with its two rear wheels being larger than the front one.
It includes a parent’s console to store all of your smaller items as well as your water when you’re out on your jog. This stroller can also accommodate children up to 75 pounds.
The difference is, although this is a lightweight jogging stroller, it still weighs 25 pounds. That’s 3 pounds more than the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2.
The stroller can’t be used with newborns, but car seat adapters are available to make it possible. The tires are pneumatic, but luckily a pump is included to keep your tires full when out and about.
BOB Revolution Flex 2.0 Jogging Stroller
The BOB Revolution Flex 2.0 is another type of jogging stroller, except this one is designed for outdoor enthusiasts ready for adventure. It can be converted into a travel system with a car seat, so no matter where you are, you can always be on the go.
With an extra-large cargo basket that you can add everything in, you don’t need to leave anything at home. It also has a mountain bike-style suspension, so even if you’re trekking through the forest, your child will be sitting comfortably.
One of the main differences with the GT2 is that this is a jogging stroller and weighs a massive 28 pounds. If you struggle to lift things, I would not recommend this one for you.
This stroller is the one for you if you are an outdoor orientated family who wants to bring the little one along with you.
