If you’re in a hurry and just want to find out what the best side by side stroller is, I’d recommend the ZOE XL2 BEST v2.

With two little kids running around, it can be really hard to get organized any time you want to leave the house. Once you do manage to get out though, things tend to be much easier if you have a double stroller.

In this article, I am breaking down the best side-by-side strollers, and in the end, I’ll choose the winner.

Here are the side by side strollers I will be reviewing:

Side By Side Vs. Tandem Stroller

If you’re going to get a double stroller, you have two main options. You can get a side by side stroller where the passengers sit next to each other. Or, you can get a tandem stroller where one child sits behind the other.

Side by side strollers tend to handle much better than tandems. In addition, since the seats are basically the same, kids don’t end up fighting over who gets to sit where. This can sometimes be an issue with tandems, particularly if you have toddlers.

The disadvantage of side by side strollers is that they can be quite wide, while tandems are basically the same width as single strollers. This means that at times, it can be difficult to fit side by side strollers through narrow doorways or to push them on crowded sidewalks.

What To Consider When Buying A Side By Side Stroller

There are a few things that you will want to consider carefully before choosing a side-by-side stroller.

How Wide Is It?

Width should be one of the first things that you look at when selecting a side by side stroller. While some are exceedingly wide, you should be able to find a good one that is narrow enough to fit through most doors. This is actually a bigger challenge with triple strollers than it is with doubles.

How Heavy Is It?

Double strollers are generally quite a bit heavier than single strollers. No surprise there since they are carrying double the load. However, there are some light weight options available. Since you will probably be loading your stroller into the trunk and carrying it around from time to time, it’s a good idea to pay close attention to weight before you make a purchase. It gets really old lifting a heavy stroller after a while.

Car Seat Compatibility

While there are plenty of double strollers are that are seat compatible, most of them are either tandem or all-terrain. It can be somewhat difficult to find regular side by side strollers that accept car seats, though I did include one on the list below.

Storage Space

Anyone with a baby or toddler knows that whenever you head out of the house, you need to take a lot of things with you. That goes double if you have two kids. So, it can be really helpful if your stroller has a large underneath basket to help lighten the load. Parent trays and cup holders are also nice features.

My Top Side-By-Side Stroller Reviews

I have done a deep dive into the world of side-by-side strollers, and reviewed my top five. All of the ones included below are meant to be every day strollers. So, I haven’t included any all-terrain or jogging strollers. While I have chosen my favorite, I feel good recommending any of the strollers in this post.

Joovy Scooter X2 Double Stroller

There is a lot to like about the Joovy Scooter X2 Double Stroller, though it does have a few drawbacks.

While some side by side strollers are a bit wide, this one is actually fairly narrow. So, getting through doorways should be no issue.

Your little passengers will be traveling in comfort since the seats and footrests both adjust independently. While independently reclining seats are fairly common in side by side strollers, independently adjustable footrests are not. As your kids grow, their feet will continue to be well supported.

Folding is really easy and can be done with one hand. That’s quite an accomplishment for a double stroller. However, this one is a little on the heavy side. So, while it might fold easily, it will be a bit of a drag to put into the trunk.

One area where this one really shines is storage space. The storage basket underneath is quite large and there are also two zippered pockets in back for phones, keys, sunglasses and other small items. It has two cup holders, so both parents will be able to stroll along with their beverage of choice. There are also mesh pockets for your little passengers’ drinks, snacks, and toys.

The huge canopy does a nice job of protecting little ones from the sun. But, the fact that there is only one canopy is not ideal. It would be nice if there were two so that one child could have the canopy up while the other had it pushed back. Then again, this isn’t an issue that comes up all that often.

Pros

  • Narrow for a side by side stroller
  • One handed fold
  • Two cup holders for parents
  • Two zippered pockets in back for small items
  • Mesh pockets for kids to store drinks, snacks, and toys
  • Footrests recline independently

Cons

  • On the heavy side
  • Not car seat compatible
  • Has one large canopy instead of two

ZOE XL2 BEST V2

Of all of the side by side strollers on the market, this one is my favorite.

It’s hard not to notice how well this one handles when you’re walking around town. Tight turns and sharp corners are no trouble at all.

When you’re ready to fold it up, you can do so with one hand. It’s also able to stand when folded. This is really helpful when you walk into a crowded restaurant, since it doesn’t take up much space when it’s standing.

Perhaps the most striking thing about this stroller is that it’s incredibly light. This is something you will notice the first time you lift it up, and something that you will really appreciate over time.

When it comes to beverages and snacks, your little passengers will be well covered. There are two child cup holders and a snack cup. It only has one parent cup holder, so one parent may have to carry their own cup of coffee.

The storage basket underneath is really large. So, you should be able to put your diaper bag down there to lighten the load. However, there is no parent console. So, you don’t have a convenient place to toss small items.

While the seats recline independently, some parents wish the seats reclined further.

Passengers will be well protected from the sun thanks to independently adjustable deluxe canopies.

Pros

  • Superb handling
  • Ultra light weight
  • Includes one parent cup holder
  • Has two child cup holders and a snack cup
  • Easy one handed fold
  • Stands when folded
  • Large underneath storage basket
  • Deluxe canopies for each child

Cons

  • Doesn’t come with a parent console
  • Not car seat compatible
  • Seats don’t recline all the way

Delta Children LX Side By Side Stroller

This side by side umbrella stroller is priced on the low end of the range. It doesn’t come with all of the bells and whistles that some of the other strollers have, but it covers the basics well. So, it’s an excellent option for anyone on a tight budget.

This stroller is narrow and gets high marks for maneuverability. So, you’ll have no trouble navigating crowded sidewalks

It’s also light weight and easy to fold. So, when you’re done using it, packing it up and or loading it into the trunk is a breeze.

It has a parent cup holder and two zippered storage bags in back. So, you have lots of space to put small items. However, it doesn’t have a storage basket underneath, which means you will be stuck carrying around your diaper bag.

The seats recline independently in multiple positions, so your passengers should be comfortable. However, the canopies leave something to be desired. They are fairly shallow, so unless the sun is in just the right place, they don’t provide much coverage.

Pros

  • Priced at the low end of the range
  • One parent cup holder
  • Two storage bags in back
  • Light weight
  • Fairly narrow
  • Easy to fold and unfold

Cons

  • Canopies don’t provide much coverage
  • Not car seat compatible
  • No storage underneath

Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double Stroller

This one is fairly expensive. If you have the budget for it though, it has some interesting features that make it an attractive option.

Unlike the other strollers featured in this post, this one is car seat compatible. You can get an adapter and it will work with a variety of different car seats. It should be noted though that it is only able to fit one car seat.

Your passengers should be comfortable, since the seats recline independently. The large canopies will keep them protected from the sun as well.

The handlebar is adjustable. So, parents that are different heights will both be comfortable pushing this one.

The storage space on this one is decent, but unimpressive. There are storage bags in back and an underneath storage basket. However, the basket underneath is a little on the small side. It also doesn’t come with a cup holder. So, you’ll need to buy a separate accessory if you want a place to put your drink.

It gets high marks for being easy to fold. However, it’s fairly heavy. So, while folding it is no problem, putting it into the trunk can be a pain.

Pros

  • Accepts one infant car seat with an adapter
  • Has storage bags in back
  • Easy to fold
  • Adjustable handlebar
  • Large canopies

Cons

  • Priced on the high end of the range
  • Underneath storage basket is small
  • Fairly heavy
  • No cup holder

Britax B-Agile Double Stroller

This stroller offers a few compelling features, and also has a couple of fairly minor drawbacks.

This is a fairly narrow side-by-side stroller. So, getting through most doorways shouldn’t be an issue.

It folds up with one hand, and it’s also really light. So, packing it up and popping in the trunk is quick and easy.

An adjustable handlebar means that both parents will be comfortable pushing this one.

Your little ones will be comfortable as well, since the seats recline independently and the canopies are really large.

It has a storage basket underneath, but it’s a little on the small side. That’s unfortunate since it doesn’t come with a parent tray or cup holder either.

Pros

  • One handed fold
  • Adjustable handlebar
  • Fairly narrow
  • Large canopies
  • Light weight

Cons

  • Storage basket underneath is a little small
  • Not car seat compatible
  • No cup holders or parent tray

Bringing Home The Best Side-By-Side Stroller

Each of the strollers above comes with different features and limitations. However, in my opinion the ZOE XL2 BEST v2 is the best side by side stroller for most parents. It’s light weight, handles well and comes with a lot of compelling benefits. That said, I think that any one of the strollers included in this post would make a good choice.
