The first thing to note when looking for a compact double stroller is the dimensions of the stroller when folded.

We bought our first double stroller when we had our baby girl, and quickly realized it didn’t fit in the trunk of our compact car. That was a big problem since we took the car pretty much everywhere we went.

In addition to using it for everyday use, we also wanted something we could take on flights with us for family vacations. Traveling with two kids is a struggle, and we needed a travel stroller that we could check on the airplane without hassle.

So, in order to not make the same mistake we made, you will want to note the dimensions of the stroller when folded, and how compact it is so that you can take it around more easily.

How Wide Is It?

In addition to the folded size, you will also want to consider how big the stroller is unfolded. The design of an in-line tandem makes it a narrower fit but is sometimes a bit harder to maneuver. Many side-by-side double strollers can be wide and won’t fit easily through doorways. I’ve had lots of trouble using a side-by-side and struggling to fit through doors.

The moral of the story is if you’re planning to use the stroller to go in and out of buildings and in and around crowds, you may want to consider the width of the stroller and how easy it is to get in and out of buildings.

This side-by-side double stroller is on the lighter side, weighing only 23 pounds. The design is very compact with a one-hand fold feature, and it stands on its own when folded. The folded dimensions are 23.75 inches by 30 inches by 14.3 inches.

Easy to fit in the back of the car, this stroller would also be great for traveling because of how compact and light it is.

Narrow enough to fit through a standard door, this stroller is ideal for in town or out of town strolls. So hopefully you don’t have to struggle like I did with my wide load coming through the door, in need of help from strangers.

There is an extra-large storage basket underneath the seats for all the things you need. I personally appreciate having the space to hold a diaper bag, snacks, a blanket, plus my backpack or purse and any extras.

Along with the storage, it comes with a phone holder and a cup holder. Although, as with some of the other models, the cup holder is pretty useless and not sturdy. For the children, there are sippy cup holders so they can help themselves when they’re thirsty.

The two large canopies provide sufficient coverage and will protect both of your kids from the harsh sun. They feature flip-out sun visors as well as peek-a-boo windows.

With folded dimensions of 9.8 inches by 24.8 inches by 26.2 inches, this model could be a great option for traveling or everyday use. It should fit in the trunk of your compact car with no issues.

Unfolded, it’s built to fit through a standard doorway, so you won’t need to struggle like I did to get in and out of buildings. If you happen to have a big toddler, though, the small seats could be a bit cramped for them.

Maneuvering is no problem, and the front swivel wheels lock, making moving around much easier. A downside is that folding and unfolding can be a bit tricky and may take a bit of extra fiddling. 

The UV50+ canopy is huge and provides full-coverage, with a peek-a-boo window for you to see your precious cargo. With seats reclining nearly all the way back, your kids would be able to take nice long naps under the canopy lying back in their comfortable seat. The five-point harnesses on the seat make sure your little ones are secure.

It’s not too wide for a side-by-side and fits through a 30-inch doorway with ease. This may be your best bet for a traveling stroller since it is so light and compact, especially for a double.

With rather durable wheels featuring a front swivel and suspension system, this stroller is easy to push and maneuver. The wheels are certainly not all-terrain but seem to do pretty well on a number of rough surfaces. This is also good to keep in mind if you like to go out on nature walks or are traveling and need something versatile that can hold up.

Folding is no problem at all, and should take just a few seconds to do. However, unfolding can be a bit of a struggle because the clamp is very secure. It may take a few extra minutes until you get the hang of it.

The multiposition recline is great for when your kids are ready to take a nap or rest while you’re strolling. To ensure they are secure and comfortable, the five-point safety harness features shoulder pads and reflective material so the stroller can be seen in the dark.

This double stroller is relatively lightweight, at 25.4 pounds. It folds quite compactly to 15.75 inches by 16.75 inches by 41.5 inches.

At less than 30 inches wide, this Evenflo Minno Twin Double Stroller can fit through standard doorways with no problem.

It folds and unfolds easily, with a convenient one-hand fold feature, so you don’t have to wrestle the frame with both hands. Additionally, it stands all on its own after being folded, which is convenient and makes life a bit easier while you’re dealing with both kiddos.

Front-wheel swivel lock and suspension are designed to make the ride smooth and less bumpy for your children’s comfort. However, the stroller is not built to handle rough terrain and is not the easiest to maneuver. 

The seats are deep and have many different recline options, including almost completely flat. For me, having stroller seats that can lay nearly flat is amazingly convenient for when it’s time for a diaper change or periodic naps in the park. 

On sunny days, the canopy can help to shield the sun out of your babies’ eyes. However, the canopy is not full-coverage and may not cover your kids completely. They are not adjustable, which could be challenging if the sun is at an angle and hitting your babies in the face during your stroll.

Storage space is sufficient, with a small basket underneath the seats. This can be enough to hold snacks and some personal belongings, but don’t expect to fit a giant purse or backpack under there.

This Baby Trend Sit n Stand is one of the in-line tandem stroller designs, in which one baby is in the front, while the second can either sit or stand on the back. Typically if you have one child who is an older toddler and one baby, this is an ideal stroller for versatility and comfort.

Relatively lightweight, this stroller weighs 26.8 pounds, so it’s manageable to get in and out of the car. 

Luckily, this model is easy to fold and unfold. The folded dimensions make this fairly compact at 20.5 inches by 18 inches by 48 inches, but a bit larger than some of the other options. That makes the Baby Trend a relatively good option for travel and everyday use if you have more than one child.

It fits rather well through doorways and is not too cumbersome to steer or maneuver.

With a decent-sized storage basket underneath, this stroller can hold quite a bit of your belongings. However, it is difficult to access, which can make grabbing and putting things away a bit of a pain. 

On the plus side, there are many cup holders that are functional as well as a parent compartment for you to put your things.

The front seat reclines slightly, but only a couple of inches. There is no full or significant recline for your kid to have a nice comfortable nap during your strolls.

The Sit n Stand is car seat adaptable, which may be a good option if you have a little one that is easy to transport around in their car seat. It can be put in both the front and rear positions depending on your preference. 

The canopy is large and extendable in the front that is removable. There is no canopy for the backseat however, so only one of your passengers will be protected from the hot sun.

Baby Jogger City Mini Double Stroller

Another of Baby Jogger’s side by side double strollers, the City Mini Double Stroller has a few different features that could be appealing to you.

A bit heavier than the other models, this one weighs 28.2 pounds. It also features a quick fold technology and is ultra-compact when folded. 

Easy to fold and unfold, this one can be taken around without all the hassle of wrestling to close or open in the street—that can be a bit embarrassing.

It fits through a standard-sized doorway, and should be easy enough to take in and around town. 

The wheels are a bit bigger than some of the other models, and are built to handle more terrains with a higher aluminum frame suspension system. So, your kids may stay asleep while you drive over bumps, dirt roads, or high curbs (fingers crossed!).

The swivel front wheels lock, making this versatile for many uses. It has a one-hand steering option, making it easy and convenient to maneuver while multitasking.

A storage basket underneath has room for some items, but is not very big and is a bit difficult to access. Parents and children will love the large, UP50+ canopies that feature peek-a-boo windows and are adjustable.

The seats on this stroller are comfortable and breathable, with built-in vents and near-flat recline option for naps. The City Mini Double is adaptable to certain car seats, which is a plus if you have one that is compatible with the stroller. Trays and cup holders are sold separately, so keep this in mind as an extra cost if it is something on your list of necessities.

Delta Children City Street LX Side by Side Stroller

This may be a good option for someone on a budget, as it’s on the cheaper side. Rather light, this Delta Children City Street LX side-by-side stroller is only 21.4 pounds.

This stroller is extremely compact at 17 inches by 15 inches by 42 inches when folded. It should fit easily in the back of your car, no matter the size of the trunk. If you are taking this along on your travels, it shouldn’t cause much of a hassle.

It is narrow enough to fit easily through doorways, and maneuvers quite smoothly. It takes minimal effort to steer and is quick to fold and unfold. This makes it perfect as an everyday stroller for your trips to the park and mall 

As far as comfort goes, the canopy is European-style, which means it does not provide much coverage. Although the seats have a separate recline option, the angle of the recline is very slight. This may make it harder for your child to rest or sleep easily in the stroller.

The storage consists of two hanging bangs behind the seat. This may be adequate if you plan to bring only the necessities, but if you want to have all the extras with you, this may not be sufficient. The cup holder is included, but there is only one and it falls off easily. So, it pretty much defeats the purpose of having a cupholder.

The handlebars are a bit low, making steering a bit of a challenge for anyone even slightly taller. This can be a literal pain, especially for people like my husband who is over 6 feet tall.

Kolcraft Cloud Lightweight and Compact Double Umbrella Stroller

For someone on a budget, this Kolcraft Cloud is a steal. The umbrella stroller is nearly as light as a cloud, weighing only 21 pounds.

The frame folds down to 13 inches by 12.5 inches by 43.5 inches, making it very compact. It folds and unfolds super easy, which makes traveling with it easy and convenient. 

The canopies are expandable and adjustable; they provide full coverage to protect your little ones and their sensitive skin from sunlight. 

As far as comfort goes, the seats recline back independently, which is especially nice when your kids are different ages. My older kid loves to sit up and see what’s going on, while my little girl can easily zonk out under the shade. However, the recline is not all the way, and may make napping a bit less comfy.

For added comfort, the seatbacks roll up to reveal a mesh vent that can let in an extra breeze on warm days.

The stroller has pretty much no storage, so this is something you may want to consider. If you want to store anything on this stroller, you will need to purchase the bags sold separately. 

The wheels have also been said to be unreliable, and become wobbly easily. Additionally, because the wheels are bit wide, this stroller has a tough time getting through some doorways.

Chicco BravoFor2 Standing/Sitting Double Stroller

This is an in-line tandem stroller, with a ride or stand option for an older child. The Chicco BravoFor2 Standing/Sitting Double Stroller has a one-hand fold feature that is quick and easy.

It even stands on its own after folding, which is a convenient feature I know any parent will appreciate. That means you can carry one baby in your arms while you fold the thing up. (Trust me, it makes a difference!)

Not the lightest stroller, this one is 32.5 pounds, but only a few pounds more than many of the compact models. The folded dimensions are 30 inches by 15 inches by 23 inches. This makes it one of the less compact ones also, but it has some other perks. 

This type of stroller is perfect if you have an older toddler that loves to walk, stand, and sit while your baby sleeps. However, the front seat does not recline much, which may keep your little one from resting well.

There is one canopy to cover the front baby. Unfortunately, the kid sitting in the back doesn’t get any shade, so you may want to consider if this it’s important for their comfort.

The stroller design is narrow and fits easily through doorways, so this is an easy one to take in and out of buildings. On the flip side, it isn’t the easiest to push or maneuver. 

For steering, the durable wheels are spaced further apart, which means you can take longer strides than with most strollers.

An extra-large storage basket means there should be plenty of room for your belongings, plus some extras. There are cup holders, but they are a bit shallow, and may not hold your cup.

JOOVY Caboose Too Graphite Stand-On Tandem Stroller

Another in-line tandem, this Joovy Caboose stroller is somewhat lightweight, at 27.5 pounds. It also folds compactly to the dimensions of 45 inches by 21.25 inches by 10 inches, which should fit in the back of most cars.

This stroller is super durable and easy to maneuver and steer with one hand. I don’t know about you, but I like to have one hand free while I’m pushing to speak on the phone or easily access things from storage.

Like most other in-line tandems, the child in the back can either sit or stand on the platform while the front child sits or sleeps.

There is only one canopy to cover the front seat, but this is common for many sit and stand in-line strollers. 

As wide as a single stroller, this design is easy to fit through doorways and works great for in and around town. 

There is a storage basket, but having your toddler sit in the back seat really restricts the storage space to nothing because it’s where their feet hang. 

Compatible with specific car seats, this can make a good travel system for you.

When both kids are sitting, the seats are quite comfy. Both seats recline, but because of the design, if the front seat is reclined, the child is cramped in the back. Also, if you have a car seat in the front, the child in the back needs to stand or recline all the way.

So, Do We Have A Winner?

For me, the winner is the Summer 3Dpac CS+ Double Stroller. It’s lighter than most double strollers, easy to fold and unfold, and compact enough to fit in my little car.

There is a big canopy to provide full-coverage and protect my babies from the hot sun with peek-a-boo windows so I can see them easily. The one-hand fold is ideal when out and about and trying to multitask. The final thing that drew me in was the large storage space for all the many things I need along with me (I love to over pack).
